Harding Meyer
Harding Meyer (*1964, Porto Alegre) is a German-Brazilian painter who, since the early 1990s, has engaged with the human face as a pictorial motif within a media-shaped contemporary reality. His paintings unite the immediate impact of portraiture with the visible traces of a complex and layered painterly process.
Many of his works originate from photographic or digital image fragments, which Meyer progressively transforms in the course of painting. In this process, the original references relinquish their concrete identity and dissolve into an autonomous pictorial reality.
Following his studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe (1987–1993), Meyer developed a visual language concerned with the translation of photographic imagery into painting. His work unfolds at the intersection of figurative clarity and painterly transformation.
For more than three decades, Meyer has exhibited internationally. His works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are now held in private and institutional collections across Europe and North America. Notable collections include the Würth Collection (Germany), the Frieder Burda Collection in Baden-Baden, the AMMA Foundation in Mexico, as well as the collection of Isaac Andic, founder of the fashion brand Mango, in Barcelona.
