The gallery was founded in 1983 under the name Karl Pfefferle and consistently championed painterly positions in contemporary art. In its early years, it showcased the most important exponents of the “Junge Wilde”. Three of them— Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Rainer Fetting, and Bernd Zimmer—are still represented by the gallery today.
Since the 1990s, the Karl Pfefferle Gallery has increasingly embraced a conceptually oriented form of painting, which uses visual means in various ways against the backdrop of complex cultural influences. Artists in this vein include Ekrem Yalcindag, originally from Istanbul, Peter Schuyff, a painter from New York, and Leif Trenkler, based in Cologne.
Since September 2019, the gallery has been continued under the name JAHN PFEFFERLE by Wolfgang Jahn, a gallerist based in Landshut. Wolfgang Jahn, who had been in contact with Karl Pfefferle since the beginning of his own gallery work, not only shares Pfefferle’s passion and understanding of art but also represents and supports in his gallery in Landshut many artists who had already been part of Karl Pfefferle’s program.
Many of the artists whom Karl Pfefferle has supported over the past decades will continue to be represented by the gallery. At the same time, we are excited to set new accents and to expand the gallery program in the future with additional compelling and interesting artists.
Since its founding in 1991, GALERIE JAHN has specialized in both national and international contemporary art and has organized more than 60 exhibitions.
Following the renovation in 2015, we are very pleased to present our new exhibition spaces on Pulverturmstraße. There, we will continue to showcase not only established artists but also emerging young talents.
